This work was inspired by looking at Sigils in Chaos Magic texts.

I have always been a great lover of forms of divination, which I believe tap into the collective subconscious to bring otherwise obscure knowledge to our awareness.

After studying these Sigils for some time I decided to work on a grid of 16 squares and other rectangles.

This meant that the Sigil could be mapped to the 8 directions of the medicine wheel and in particular, the Twenty Count, which is a fundamental structure for understanding human life rooted in Mayan culture.

Beginning with the centre 4 squares I designed a simple glyph which either would or would not connect to the intersections of the grid lines vertically, horizontally or diagonally around this centre.

Each of these was assigned a basic meaning.

Next I worked on the rectangles in the cardinal directions.

Each design connecting to the bottom right corner.

These glyphs would primarily represent the influences being brought to the Sigil.

Many of these have end points which change and add to the meaning and which I will explain below.

Next I worked on the squares in the ordinal directions.

Each design again connecting to the bottom right corner.

The endpoints are as follows.

Here is a simple outline of the Twenty Count with some of the basic meanings for each point. It is like the alethiometer in that there are layers of meaning for each point which are best felt and read intuitively.

There are ten palattes in the collection released on fxhash.

Five of these point to the lower numbers, 1 - 9 and five to the higher numbers 11-19.

Each colour also has an element, which suggests where that Sigil's power base is.

These are as follows: Lower: Earth, Water, Plant, Ice, Metal. Higher: Air, Faith, Spirit, Fire, Light.

The background texture was created from studying a photograph of canvas at high resolution.

A base colour has highlights and shadows added to it with some randomness to create a woven textile.

A translucent layer is then placed over the symbol layer in order to make it look like it is painted onto the canvas.
